Lasers are a new modality for the rapid, gentle removal of unwanted hair. Lasers are not for everyone, and their proper use requires great expertise. Consumers contemplating laser hair removal require education to properly evaluate if and where to have laser hair removal performed. Many competing technologies exist. Several are already outmoded, and others offer particular advantages for certain patient populations. This site is designed to help consumers decide if they are proper candidates for laser hair removal and to answer the most relevant questions concerning this important new advance.

Laser hair removal is not for everyone. The absolute requirement is that one’s hair must be darker than the surrounding skin. Additionally very darkly pigmented people absorb too much laser energy in their skin and are not ideal candidates. Tanned patients with light hair are not candidates. Tanned patients with dark hair should wait until their tan fades before they are treated. Lastly the treatment cost should be within reach of the patient. Laser hair removal, although much less expensive than electrolysis, requires multiple treatments, and generally costs over $1000 in total for most anatomic areas.

Treatment cost varies with the size of the area treated. Experienced laser centers, which have developed expertise in laser hair removal, generally average about $500 per treatment session, with an average of four treatment sessions initially recommended. Large areas, such as the entire back, or the entire legs, cost considerably more than this. Small areas, such as the upper lip, can be less. Individual consultation with the laser center is necessary to obtain exact pricing.

I’ve had laser hair removal on my legs, bikini area and arm picks, it was easy to handle except for the bikini area, because since the hair is very thick it hurts (i think it’s worse to wax it though). It takes around 8 or 9 months (u have a session each month).

u can go to the beach but they tell u to use sunblock when u go to protect ur skin, u can do laser if u have a tan, that doesn’t matter.

don’t worry, i can’t handle injections either, you’ll be fine. the only area that really hurts is the bikini but it isn’t something u can’t take.

I don’t regret doing it, it has been one of the best things I’ve done in my entire life, u should go for it

well the pain ppl experience is different for everyone. they had me doing this one setting that was really high and they said some ppl would be screaming right now and i was barely feeling it, so it’s just different for each person. but it’s def bearable, and they also have a numbing cream they put on before to help decrease any pain, which is especially helpful for sensitive areas like the upper lip. the actual time for each session just depend on what you’re getting done, like a bikini would be like maybe 30-45 min.. they just have this laser thing and they have to go all over the area to hit all the hair follicles, so it just depends on how big the area is. normally you do about 4 treatments, more if you’re young around 18. you can usually buy all treatments up front and get a discounted price rather than paying each one individually. you wait about 6-8 weeks in between treatments, and you prob should see a change in the hair growth after the 1st and 2nd one definitely. i’ve gotten my bikini, upper lip, and am working on my legs right now. to be honest, i’m not hair-free on any of those spots, although the hair growth has changed and is more slow than before. also the hair is thinner so it’s easier to maintain. i’m only 18 though, so i may just need more treatments, and i have fairly dark skin which may also cause me to need more. and about tanning…it’s not as affective if you have a dark tan. i’ve been turned away before bc i was too dark just from tanning and whatever. so you’ll prob need to avoid tanning if you tan easily and are just naturally somewhat darker. laser wouldnt be worse than an injection just bc it’s not breaking through your skin, and the pain also depends on what setting they put you at. if you cant stand it, they can turn it down and what not. i’m sure a lot of ppl have gotten great results and are hair free, and even if you dont become totally hair free in whatever area, i still think it’s worth it just to make it more managable. good luck!
